Dormu Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Dormu, LLC and its subsidiaries and affiliates (“Dormu,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collect, use, disclose, and otherwise process information about you when you access or use our mobile application(s), website(s), products, features, tools, and services (collectively, the “Services”).
By using the Services, you acknowledge that you have read and understand this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
1. Scope and Important Notes
1.1 This Policy Covers. This Privacy Policy covers information we process about:
- Users of the Dormu app and Services (“Users”).
- Individuals in a User’s “Contact Network” who receive communications from Dormu (e.g., SMS/push/email alerts) (“Contact Network Members”).
1.2 Safety-Related Service. Dormu is designed to provide safety awareness and notifications. Dormu is not a 911 service and does not provide emergency dispatch. (See our Terms and Conditions.)
1.3 Third-Party Platforms. If you download the app through Apple’s App Store or Google Play, those platforms may process data independently under their own policies.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information from you, your device, your usage of the Services, and in some cases from third parties.
2.1 Information You Provide
- Account Information: name, email address, phone number, password or authentication credentials, and profile details.
- Contact Network Information: names, phone numbers, email addresses, and relationship labels for your Contact Network Members.
- Safety Preferences & Settings: monitoring schedules, inactivity or immobility thresholds, Safe Zones/geofence settings, escalation preferences, notification preferences, SOS settings, Remote Access permissions, and other feature configurations.
- Communications: messages you send to us (e.g., support requests), feedback, survey responses, and other communications.
- Payment/Subscription Information: if you subscribe through an app marketplace (Apple/Google), we typically receive limited purchase-related information (e.g., subscription status, product ID, transaction receipt tokens). We generally do not receive full card numbers when you pay through Apple/Google.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device Information: device type, operating system/version, app version, language, time zone, device identifiers (such as advertising ID where permitted), IP address, mobile carrier, network information, reported battery level, and internet or network connectivity status.
- Usage Information: app screens viewed, features used, clicks/taps, time spent, crash reports, diagnostics, performance logs, and troubleshooting data.
- Notification and Communication Metadata: delivery status, timestamps, and error logs related to push notifications, SMS, and emails (e.g., whether a message was sent, failed, or delivered).
- Approximate Location (if enabled): derived from IP address or other signals.
2.3 Location Information (When You Allow It)
Dormu may collect precise location information (GPS and related signals) if you enable location permissions to support features such as location sharing, location displays or history, Safe Zones/geofencing, Remote Access, and SOS. Location information may be collected in the foreground while using the App and/or in the background if you grant “Always” or similar permissions, subject to operating-system and device controls. Location information may be delayed, incomplete, inaccurate, or unavailable. References to “Real-Time” location mean that Dormu processes and responds to location data as quickly as possible after Dormu receives the applicable data from the User’s device; they do not mean that location information is instantaneous or continuously updated without delay. When you activate SOS, the Services may include your device’s available location information, including precise location where available, with the SOS alert regardless of your ordinary location-sharing preference.
2.4 Motion / Sensor / Activity-Related Information (When You Allow It)
If you grant applicable device permissions, Dormu may collect and process motion, sensor, and device-activity signals used to support safety features, including potential inactivity signals, potential immobility signals, and, on compatible devices and configurations, signals used in an attempt to identify movements that may be consistent with a fall. The specific signals available and the frequency or timing with which they are made available to Dormu depend on the device, operating system, permissions, App state, connectivity, and other technical factors and may be delayed, degraded, inaccurate, intermittent, or unavailable.
2.5 Information About Contact Network Members
If a User adds you as a Contact Network Member, we may process your:
- Name (if provided), phone number, email address
- Communications preferences/opt-outs (e.g., STOP for SMS where supported)
- Records of alerts sent to you (timestamps, delivery status)
2.6 Remote Access and Authorized Persons
If a User enables Remote Access, Dormu may process and disclose information necessary to provide that functionality to the person authorized by the User. Depending on the features enabled, this may include Account status, monitoring status and schedules, location information, Safe Zone or geofencing settings, Device Status Information such as reported battery level or connectivity, and other supported configuration information. An authorized person may also be able to change supported settings. The User controls the granting, modification, and revocation of Remote Access through functionality made available by Dormu.
3. How We Use Information
We use information for the following purposes:
3.1 Provide and Operate the Services
- Create and manage accounts
- Enable safety monitoring features, Safe Zones, location sharing, and SOS
- Send alerts to the User and/or Contact Network Members based on User settings
- Provide customer support, troubleshoot, and respond to inquiries
3.2 Communications
- Send service-related messages (e.g., confirmations, alerts, security notices)
- Send administrative messages (e.g., policy updates)
- Send marketing/promotional communications where permitted and subject to your choices
3.3 Safety-Related Logic and Alerts
- Detect and process events consistent with your settings (e.g., potential inactivity/immobility patterns, Safe Zone events, user-initiated SOS)
- Execute the user-first notification sequence and escalation logic (e.g., notify you first, then notify your Contact Network if you do not respond within a set timeframe)
Dormu’s automated processing and alert functions operate after Dormu receives the applicable data or signal from the User’s device. Device, operating-system, sensor, location-provider, network, and third-party-service conditions may affect when Dormu receives that information and therefore when an alert, update, or other automated action occurs.
3.4 Improve and Protect the Services
- Monitor performance, analyze usage trends, debug crashes, and improve reliability
- Prevent fraud, misuse, security incidents, and prohibited behavior
- Enforce our Terms and protect our rights and users’ safety
3.5 Legal and Compliance
- Comply with legal obligations
- Respond to lawful requests and legal process
- Protect against harm to the rights, property, or safety of Dormu, our users, and the public
4. How We Disclose Information
We may disclose information as follows:
4.1 To Your Contact Network, Family Network, and Authorized Remote Access Users
When you enable safety, sharing, or Remote Access features, Dormu may disclose information to your Contact Network, Family Network, or persons you authorize for Remote Access, as applicable. Depending on your settings and the feature involved, this information may include alerts (such as inactivity, immobility, Safe Zone, fall-related, or SOS events), location information (including potentially precise location), Device Status Information such as reported battery level or connectivity, monitoring status or schedules, Safe Zone settings, timestamps, event types, and other information necessary to provide the enabled feature. When you activate SOS, available location information, including precise location where available, may be included with the SOS alert regardless of your ordinary location-sharing preference.

We may disclose information for other purposes with your consent or at your direction.
5. Your Choices and Controls
5.1 Permissions
You can enable/disable certain permissions in your device settings, including:
- Precise location
- Background location

5.3 Remote Access Management
Where Remote Access is available, you can grant, review, modify, or revoke another person’s Remote Access through the functionality made available by Dormu. Revoking Remote Access may not affect information that was previously disclosed or viewed while access was authorized.
5.4 Marketing Preferences
Where applicable, you can opt out of marketing emails by following unsubscribe instructions in the email. For SMS, you may opt out by replying STOP (where supported).
6. Data Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to:
- Provide the Services
- Maintain records for legitimate business purposes (e.g., security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution)
- Comply with legal obligations
Retention periods can vary depending on data type and purpose. When we no longer need information, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.
